Welcome to Rehabilitation Rotations at Silva Health Magnet High School
I have been teaching at Silva since 1999 and have enjoyed it much. The students are fantastic!
Rehabilitation Rotations is one of the 4 rotations at Silva Magnet for
the junior year; the other three rotations are Nursing, Dental &
Veterinary, and Community Health.
In Rehabilitation Rotations, we have classroom work first to study and
explore the "big three" rehab careers: Physical Therapy, Occupational
Therapy, and Speech & Language Pathology. We also study other
therapeutic careers as well as the other medical careers to see how
rehab fits into the whole continuity of care for the patient. We also
review briefly anatomy & physiology, some common pathologies that
therapists address, and medical terminology.
We then provide students opportunities to shadow therapists and other
medical workers involved in rehab. We travel to various hospitals,
outpatient facilities, and long term care facilities in central El Paso
by school bus. This way the students can see and apply in their minds
what they have been learning in the classroom since their freshman year!
The main purpose of these clinical rotations is to help each student
make a more-informed decision about what college program of study and
career to invest in.
If you wish to contact me, my conference time is "gray days" 1:00 - 3:45 or after school by appointment. Please call 915-236-7600.
